1) First, I want to thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me! When did you know that writing is what you were called to do? What is it about being a writer that you love the most? What about being a writer frustrates you the most?

First and Foremost Thank you for this interview. It’s Great Honor! As a Young Girl I was shy and was also bullied in school. I isolated myself a lot and did not want to encounter my peers because I felt I would not be accepted. So as a young girl I began to keep a journal in which I would pen down my experiences of the day. I did not know that writing would later be a huge part of my life. I use writing to express myself, my ideas, my dreams and my goals. This was the beginning of my writing hobby. I really love to connect with readers and other Authors/ Writers in other Arenas. When I first started writing I simply wrote poetry. Poetry is the Heart of a person and their expressions in words. It draws out the writer’s imagination. I love that part of it (Imagination). My first book was a poetry book called “Spiritual Expressions”. I would say the frustration of being a writer is trying to write something that resonates with the readers. There are so many writers today and so many topics that sometimes I feel as though there is nothing more to write about. As a writer you draw in the readers with a new experience or new read of experiences. This sometimes turns into Writer’s Block that many writers encounter as we pen down a particular topic and run out of the words or the imagination to move forward. I have experienced this quite a lot. Yet, I have learned to BE ME and pen down my personal life experiences that have really helped me to think outside of the box because your experiences are your experiences, and no one can tell your story like you can.

2) Can you tell us a little about your book(s) and where our readers can find out more about them and you?

The Latest book I have recently published is a Children’s Book “The Perfect Pet for Jamie”. This is the second children’s book I have written, and it also made the Bestseller List. I am currently promoting this one as well as writing more Children’s Books and making this one a series. I am a 7X International Best Seller Author with 14 Books published single books and Collaborations. Also, I have produced two Stage Plays & One Film and my books can be purchased on Amazon, Walmart Online & Barnes & Noble.

3) What projects are you currently working on?

I just recently produced a project Documentary Entitled “From Under a Bridge” which will be released in August/September of 2023. This documentary is a True-Life Story of the Author of “From Under a Bridge One & Two Books. I was blessed to collaborate with Blossom Rogers, and we put together a Team along with my Co-Producer / Videographer to bring this Documentary to the forefront which speaks about Drug & Alcohol Addiction and Molestation. I am very excited about Documentary and also to move into producing more Documentaries. Currently also writing with other Authors for a Collaboration Anthology Book scheduled to release in August. I have been accepted to write a daily blog for the Patheos Magazine as a contributing Writer which is currently in progress. I am excited.

about the New Opportunities that I have been afforded to be a part of. It’s been such a privilege on this writing journey.

4) What has been your most significant achievement as a writer thus far? Where do you see yourself within your career in the next five years?

I would have to say that my most significant achievement is connecting and collaborating with like-minded Authors. I have learned a lot about publishing, writing, promoting and networking in the last few years of my writing experiences. I would like to write more films and connect with TV Writers and take my writing to a level unknown to me. I am always open to reinventing myself daily and this would greatly be an experience that I would love to jump into.

5) How have you dealt with rejection within your writing career?

Rejection in this industry of writing can be very hard. It can be emotional because we all want to be accepted and when it feels that your work is not resonating with others it can cause a potential temporary or permanent set-back. I have learned to keep it moving. Although some doors may close for opportunities; there are also doors of opportunities that are meant for me. I don’t waste time on one project. I am constantly moving on to the next. I am a busy Woman and sometimes I see rejection as God-sent the right one is always around the corner.

6) Do you have a schedule for when you write? Do you outline your novels? How long does it generally take you to finish a novel?

This question comes up very often so when I tell others about my writing habits. I simply tell them that if you want to write you must start with a little everyday. It can be a sentence or a paragraph daily to start. I usually start with a Title and allow my vision to flow from there. Most of my writings have been Devotionals , My Life Story and Stage Plays. I must say once I start there is no stopping me . I allow God and inspiration to lead me and guide my thoughts through the process. To write a Chapter usually takes me up to 2 weeks in collaboration. Yet for a single book it usually takes me 30-60 days to complete. In all of my years of writing since 2007 I have pretty much written two books a year alongside other projects and speaking engagements. I love the energy it gives me in writing that is my PASSION.

7) Do you believe that there is ever a point in life where it’s too late for an aspiring writer to become successful in this industry? Do you feel a late start would hinder their chances?

I would have to say NO! If you are passionate about writing it’s never too late to start. I would say encircle yourself with people who are gifted in the area of writing you wish to write about. I started early in my 20’s and now I am in my 50’s and I have seen many people who have just started around my age and they are having a great reward in their writing career/hobby. I would tell anyone who wishes to pursue writing in an arena to be open to collaborations to get your feet wet and flow. It will be a great experience to learn the ups and downs of the publishing process. It will be worth it!

8) Are you an avid reader and have you always been? What’s the first book you ever read that really touched you emotionally and moved you? Who is your favorite author? What book are you currently reading?

Yes, I would say I am an avid reader. I enjoy reading and writing. The “BattleField of the Mind” was one of the books that I can remember as a young adult that really helped me to walk in what God has for me and let go of those things that are strongholds in our minds. Who is your favorite author? Maya Angleo is one of my favorite Authors till this day. The expressions in her books really resonated with me as I was growing up. I am currently reading Women Be Free ”, a collaboration book about Freeing yourself and following what you have been called to do. There are several Authors in this book including myself. A very Good Read!

9) Did the quarantine stifle your creativity or did it make you even more driven to get things done? What perspective did the Pandemic give you that you that now influences what you do creatively?

As a matter of fact the quarantine was the time that I found the time to reinvent myself. I continued to write and collaborate with other Authors. During this time I also started an online Magazine “NSpire Christian Magazine” which I am currently still advertising monthly. What perspective did the Pandemic give you that now influences what you do creatively? There was a shift in perspective during this time. I have learned to continue to move forward towards your goals and use times as the pandemic to aspire to walk out on Faith, believe in yourself and try new avenues.

10) Given the recent shake-ups in publishing, what are your thoughts about how the publishing industry is being represented today? Do you lean more towards traditional publishing or self-publishing as a preference? Does being a hybrid author interest you?

The publishing world has changed drastically. When I started my journey in writing thought the only path would be for traditional publishing but was not what I decided to do. Traditional Publishing is very difficult if you don’t have the resources needed to pursue this direction of writing you desire. Personally I lean more to self-publishing with an experienced Publisher that has been my preference for many years and it has worked well for me thus far. I feel whatever direction you choose it should resonate with the readers.

11) I feel like writing is a remarkable tool to help people not only express themselves, but also to cope emotionally and mentally. I know for me I write to be and feel more authentic. What unique quality is there about you, about your art, that you feel represents your authenticity? How does writing help you to be more empowered in your purpose?

First and foremost, I write to inspire and to encourage others. My authenticity is unique in ways that resonate to my readers who may see similar or who may be familiar with what I have to offer in my books. My writing helps me to become empowered in my purpose because my desire is to help those who may need a special word. The empowerment does not start with me, it starts with the readers who I am empowered to share my perspective and inspiration with. My purpose is to speak to the readers in an authentic manner that will empower them and change lives. As God pours into me, I will pour back into others.
