Emily Dickinson First Book Award (for Poets) – $10,000 Prize – NO Entry Fee
The Emily Dickinson First Book Award sponsored by The Poetry Foundation is a periodic award which acknowledges an American poet of about 40 years old who has still to release a first compilation of poetry. The Poetry Foundation accepts entries of a single book-length poetry composition. Graywolf Press will publish the winner’s collection of poetry as part of the prize. The competition is extended to any American person aged 40 or above who has never released a book-length edition of poems. Along with a publishing contract and publicity of the winning manuscript, the prizewinner will enjoy an award of $10,000. Your poems must be original and of your creation. Interpretations are ineligible. Your collection of poetry needs to be from 48 pages to 80 pages in length. You can only submit one manuscript per entry.

Short Story Writing Contest
Georgetown English Literature Institute and WinchesterCreativeWritingSchool are offering a grant for a writing contest that is aimed to promote short story telling art by new writers. This competition is both ambitious and exciting for all those who want to participate and get national and international recognition for their art of writing.
Writing Contest Description: Write a short story of 10 (typed) pages or less on any subject, theme, or genre whether fiction or non-fiction. You can also submit an entry with mutliple related or unrelated stories which can be of essay compositions or take diary format. If you wish to submit an entry that is a compilation of journal entries please submit a cover letter with your entry submission indicating that your are submitting into a new category of journal entries writing contest.
Prize: $5,000 to first place. $2,000 to second prize.$1,000 to third place winner.

Closing Submission Date: May 31st, 2014
Special Requirements: All entries are accepted from United States or Canada and all other countries as long as the language of short story is in English. No entries will be accepted from a student enrolled in a scholarship program. Teachers, accademics, and scholars are not qualified to participate and submit entries or guild and other professional writers. Each entry must reflect the contestant’s own work and original writing and only one entry submission can be accepted per individual. Entryies will not be returned after the contest and will become property of sponsors and will placed on national archive for review by all accessed through Web site Writing Contest and Web site Database of Writing Contests. Amazon Novel Writing Contest
Amazon and Penguin publishing productions company have organized a novel writing contest for original, unpublished or self-published, fictional, English language manuscripts of any genre, provided it is not pornography or sexual nature, offensive material or intentions, illegal acts or items, stolen properties or encouragement, items that infringe upon an individual’s privacy, hate or hate group targeting, indecent proposals, technical solutions manuals or guides, recopied media material, promotional media for marketing, video games, video promotions, software, movies, TV programs, music or soundtrack, replicas of trademarked or copyright items, or commercial publicity on behalf of a celebrity.
Writing Contest Description: Registrations and submissions for entry into the contest will be accepted after January 24, 2011 and limited up to 10,000 valid which would then be review by the panel and 2000 will be selected, from which the entries will be narrowed down to the 500 second round finalists and then further reviewed by the judges until three finalist is selected. Penguin judges and editors will then read, review, and evaluate each of the final three to select the finalist for the Penguin Publications award.
Prize: Penguin is providing the prize for this writing contest which is a publishing contract with an initial $15,000 advance payment against future royalties for the Grand Prize Winner. The winner will have to agree to all the terms and conditions of the agreement and must agree to the payment terms of arrangements for the publishing contract.

Special Requirements: A cover letter is required to briefly describe title, and a well written explanation of the idea of your novel’s concept in 300 words or less and formatted as an executive summary or just a summary in order to describe what the book is about.

Writers Village Fiction Writing Contest
WritersVillage Writing Contest, offers a national contest for a work of fiction without a pre-defined theme and all styles are welcome. Genre-based fiction would be crime, mystery, science fiction, political, suspense, horror, or historical and all levels of writers are encouraged to submit an entry for the writing competition.
Writing Contest Description: Entries are encouraged to stay within 2,500-5,000 words although we will accept entries up to 10,000 words. We specially encourage stories that are both well written and emotionally engaging. Your story should be prepared with care, and presented in clean literary journal to be sent to our panel of judges.
Prize: $500 for first prize winner. $250 for second place winner.$100 for third place.
Entry Fees: $0 for the first entry. Subsequent entries are $50 each. Up to 5 entries can be submitted per individual.

Special Requirements: Please send your work via our new online submission procedure. Submissions must be original, unpublished fiction. Submissions should be made via the designated Web site for all entries prior to the closing date of the writing competition. We do not accept paper entries mailed to the competition headquarters. Entries can be single or double spaced as long as the font size is at least 11 point. We recommend you stay within the word count limits suggested.
